From Student to Servant Leader: How MANNA Shaped Eba's Journey in Ethiopia
When sixth-grader Eba Berhanu first encountered MANNA Worldwide ministries through a partnered school in Ethiopia, he never imagined how deeply it would shape his future. What began as an opportunity to learn and grow academically soon became the foundation for a life of service, leadership, and faith. This early experience would later help him play a role in breaking the cycle of poverty in Ethiopia.
Finding Hope in the Midst of Challenge
Growing up in Ethiopia, Eba faced the same difficulties many children encounter throughout this East African nation. Limited economic opportunities, insufficient educational infrastructure, and ongoing civil unrest create significant barriers for families trying to build better lives for their children. In rural areas especially, access to quality education remains inconsistent, while periodic conflicts disrupt normal life and force young people to make difficult choices about their futures.
How MANNA Opened Doors for Eba

Academic Confidence: The partnered MANNA school gave Eba the tools and encouragement he needed to succeed in his studies.
Opportunities to Serve: In high school, he began regularly volunteering at the MANNA center and leading worship at his church.
Spiritual Growth: Surrounded by caring mentors, he developed a servant's heart rooted in faith.
"If you're not willing to hold the mop, you have no business holding the mic."
This lesson shaped his view of leadership as service — a principle he continues to live out today.
Choosing Purpose During Uncertainty
After graduation, Ethiopia's civil war brought fear and instability. With the threat of military conscription, Eba's future seemed uncertain. During this time, he leaned into prayer, asking God for wisdom and direction.
When the conflict eased, Eba discovered a greater purpose: to expand educational opportunities and influence national policies for ministries like MANNA Worldwide.
A New Chapter in Addis Ababa
In 2022, Eba enrolled at Addis Ababa University to study Political Science. Moving from his village to the capital city, he found support and community through a campus Christian Outreach group, where he eventually became the student leader.
Now in his second year of studies, Eba is also serving in the Mayor's Office, where he works to advocate for children's futures across Ethiopia. His vision is clear — to help shape national systems and support organizations like MANNA that provide poverty solutions, child nutrition, and community development for families in need.
The Ripple Effect of One Life Transformed
Eba's story reflects the heart of MANNA Worldwide's mission: investing in children today to empower the leaders of tomorrow. Through education, spiritual discipleship, and consistent support, Eba grew into a servant leader who now seeks to impact his nation.
When one child's future changes, entire communities benefit — and the cycle of poverty begins to break.
MANNA's Growing Impact in Africa
Ethiopia is just one example of how MANNA Worldwide partners with local leaders to serve families across Africa. Through long-term, sustainable ministry, we're seeing communities strengthened and hope restored.
Each project is designed with local partners who understand their community's unique needs. Together, these efforts provide daily meals, education, healthcare, clean water, and spiritual guidance for children and families.
